0% Balance Transfer Credit Card
A 0% balance transfer credit card is a credit card which has an offer of 0% interest on balance transfers for an introductory period of usually 12 to 16 months, which then changes to the card issuers standard variable rate after the introductory period. A balance transfer handling fee is usually charged by the credit card company on each balance transfer.
This handling fee is between 2 and 3% of the value of the balance transferred. Even with these handling fees, transferring a balance from a credit card on which you are paying interest at the standard rate which may be around 17%, to one on which you pay 0% interest for a year or more can lead to quite substantial savings.
