Barclaycard Planning Green Credit Card

19th April 2007

Barclaycard, one of the UK's largest credit card issuers, has announced that it has started developing a 'green' credit card that will help card holders reduce global carbon emissions and also offer card holders incentives to be more environmentally friendly.

The new credit card is being developed by Barclaycard as it responds to increasing customer demand for products that support environmental issues. Product development research carried out for the new card, which is due to be launched in the summer, found that 1 in 8 believe climate change is an important issue and that almost 3 out of 4 people believe that incentives to buy 'green' products or services would help them to live a greener lifestyle.

"We have a history of providing customers with innovative and flexible products that meet their changing needs. Our research shows there is demand for products that make it easier to do your bit for the environment; we are proud and excited to be the first leading UK bank to offer a card which will help customers reduce carbon emissions, donate to green causes, and give incentives to buy green products. We think this product will have strong appeal to customers around the world and plan to roll it out globally over time" said Elizabeth Chambers, Barclaycard's Chief Marketing Officer.
