Biodegradable Credit Card
30th April 2006
Following hot on the heels of Barclaycard's plans to launch a 'green' credit card come news that Virgin Money is working on plans for a credit card made from biodegradable materials. No launch date has been set for the new Virgin credit card which is likely to be green in colour and not Virgin's usual red.
Virgin Money says it is working on plans for the new card, to be made from biodegradable materials with eco-designer Robert Holdway at Giraffe Innovation. A Virgin Money spokesman said that there is still "work to be done" to establish which materials and processing techniques are most suitable.
"It is important that this doesn't just pay lip service to the environment but has a lasting positive effect as part of our overall drive and commitment to environmental practice," said the Virgin Money spokesman.
The Barclaycard Breathe card, as it has now been named, is not made from biodegradable materials but is made from PETG, which it is claimed is an environmentally friendly alternative to PVC cards.
