Credit Cards And Travel Cover
2nd March 2007
Many people this year will book a holiday using their credit card and also pay for travel insurance, unaware that their credit card may already cover them. Some three quarters of all the credit cards available in the UK, offer travel insurance cover to customers who pay for part or all of their holiday with their credit card.
The level of travel insurance cover available with a credit card has risen over the past ten months, with card holders now covered to the value of £107,000 on average, a rise of £23,000 according to a study by MoneyExpert.com.
Some credit cards, generally platinum cards targeted at higher earners, provide up to £350,000 of travel accident cover and it is only a minority of credit cards which do not provide travel cover automatically.
Experts advise however, that before you dispense with travel insurance, that you carefully check that any travel accident cover provided on a credit card, is comprehensive enough in all areas for the travel cover you require, for the total duration of your holiday.
As always we recommend that you read the small print relevant to your own credit card to see what your credit card covers you for.
